Preparing To Move House Needn’t Be Stressful
Have you got to a point in your life where you need to move house? This could be due to expanding as a family and no longer fitting in your current property or needing to move for work. Whatever the reason, you may have heard that moving house can be one of the most stressful things.
This isn’t necessarily true if you are well organized and get everything done from the get go. You need to give yourself enough time to move everything and hand the keys back, if you rush and leave everything to the last minute then it will become stressful.
Find A Realtor
One of the first things you need to do is choose a realtor to work with. They will help you list and sell your current property if this applies, and they will also help find a new place for you to live.
If you give them all your wants, needs, and budget then they will look at their system to see what they have. Realtors get properties coming and going constantly so if you see one you like then you will need to let them know quickly. It has been known for properties to go on the day they were listed.
Research Areas
If you are moving to a completely different area then you will need to do some research before you start looking at new properties. The last thing you want to do is move from a nice area to a not so nice area.
You can look online at what goes on in certain areas, you could also search news reports for anything related to the area you are interested in. When you begin to look at houses, you are able to ask the realtor or even the owner if there has been any crimes reported in the area or the property itself. They have to be honest so you will always get a truthful answer if you ask the right way.
Declutter
When you know you are going to be moving then you will need to start the big job of decluttering your current property. If you have a lot of people or a lot of stuff then you might panic about this task.
There is no need, if you give yourself enough time then you can take it one room at a time. For example, head to the bedroom and sort your items into four piles. These will consist of the things you want to keep, throw away, donate, and sell. It is always nice to donate your unwanted belongings as you never know who will need them. When you are decluttering it can be useful to hire a moving pod, this will give you somewhere to store the things you know you won’t need until you move out.
Deep Clean
Once you have sorted everything in the home to move then it is time to deep clean. A deep clean means returning your home back to the clean state it was in when you moved in. This essentially means no dust, dirt, debris, or rubbish anywhere in the house. There are such things as end of tenancy cleans, you could get one of these done if you didn’t want to do it all yourself. They will charge a little bit extra but it is well worth it if you want to dedicate your time to other areas of the move. Make sure you do your research and check reviews from previous clients before you sign on the dotted line.
Hire Removals
Depending on how much stuff you are moving and how far you are moving, you might require a removal van. There are a few options here, you can either hire a van yourself and do everything. You could also hire a removal company who will come into your home, pack everything up for you, and then drive to your new location.
Alternatively, if you wanted to pack everything yourself then you can just hire a removal company to drive for you. This is useful if you don’t trust yourself or you aren’t experienced in driving bigger vans or lorries. Make sure that whichever removal company you use that they have the right insurances and paperwork in place. This will cover them and you if they break anything while moving or transporting it.
We hope this gave you some reassurance that moving house doesn’t have to be as stressful as you think it will be. Remember, take your time but start early and everything will go smoothly for you.
